Comparative literature may look like a specialized field, but the options after graduation are anything but limited. About 25-30 percent of alumni pursue further education at such institutions as Harvard, Stanford, the University of Chicago, Brandeis, the University of Indiana, the University of Wisconsin or New York University. Some continue in comparative literature, English or a national literature; others go on for degrees in law, medicine, divinity, education, and anthropology.

The following are examples of positions held by Hamilton comparative literature alumni:

Production Assistant, Pulitzer-Lerner Newspapers

Professor, Case Western Reserve University

Director of Creative Services, Portland Trailblazers

Assistant Stylist, Elle Magazine

Trial Attorney, U.S. Department of Justice-Wildlife Section

Teacher, Boston Public Schools

Legislative Specialist, Group Health Association of America

Program Associate, Council on Foreign Relations

Professor of Pediatrics, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine

Professor of Anthropology, Hamilton College
