CPSCI 105: Explorations in Computer Science
Lab 0
January 18, 2007
Play along at your computer as I explain and demonstrate how to
do the following things on the screen at the front of the classroom.
If at any point you have a question, be sure to ask.
At the end of lab today, review the topics listed below and
make sure that you understand what they mean (or how to do them).
Using the Academic server
The powerpoints for class lectures are available over the campus
network on a computer called “the Academic server”.
To connect to this server from a PC:
- Click the Start button in the Windows taskbar.
- Click on Run…
- Type \\software\Academic in the text field.
- Find and open the Computer Science folder.
- Find and open the CPSCI 105-01 Spring 2007 folder.
To connect to this server from a Mac:
- Select the Go item in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
- Click on Connect to Server…
- Type smb://software/Academic in the text field.
- Find and open the Computer Science folder.
- Find and open the CPSCI 105-01 Spring 2007 folder.
Please don't waste paper by printing out the entire lecture as
slides (which is the default print method). There is a
Print what option on the printing dialog box;
choose the Handouts option (which will alllow
you to put several slides on each page). If you're only interested
in printing specific slides, you have that option, too.
