2004 CLTA Annual Meeting
November 19-21, 2004, Chicago, IL

Panel Proposal Form Paper Proposal Form Chinese Version (PDF)

The 2004 annual meeting of the Chinese Language Teachers' Association (CLTA), held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), will take place in Chicago, Illinois from Friday November 19 through Sunday, November 21, 2004.

The Program Committee welcomes submissions on topics relevant to Chinese language, such as pedagogy, materials and program development, acquisition, linguistics, literature, film, media, technology, etc. Proposals will be reviewed anonymously. We will consider panel and individual proposals equally in the selection process. Sessions are 75 minutes long. Ideally, each panel will be limited to four fifteen-minute presentations. A formal discussant (optional) will be considered one of the four presentations. We will group individual presentations by theme. Panel organizers should note that a separate abstract is required for each paper on the panel.

Please use one of the two forms on the following pages or e-mail attachments to submit your proposals and limit the length of your abstract to 200 words. Meeting rooms are equipped with overhead projectors. If you need special equipment for your presentation, be sure to indicate so clearly in the space on the form as to whether you will bring your own equipment or you request the conference to provide it. We encourage the presenters to bring their own LCD projector and other necessary equipment. If a conference LCD projector is requested, please note that there will be a nominal fee for the use of equipment: $10 per individual, or $25 per panel.

Because of the increased number of proposals in recent years, together with the standing restriction on the total number of panels, we will consider only one proposal from each person. A participant in the program may serve as a panel chair and/or discussant in addition to presenting an individual paper. We consider proposals only from current CLTA members. Please make sure that your membership is current by the time of submission. You must also register with ACTFL for the annual meeting. If you are not currently a CLTA member, please contact Professor Cyndy Ning (cyndy@hawaii.edu), Executive Director of the CLTA, or visit CLTA's web site: http://clta.deall.ohio-state.edu/member.htm.

Pre-college level teachers and graduate students in Chinese linguistics, literature, and pedagogy are eligible for the Walton Presentation Prize for their conference participation. Preference will be given to first-time presenters. The recipient of the prize will receive $250 towards expenses incurred for attending the CLTA 2004 annual meeting. The prize winner will be invited to submit his/her paper to the Journal of the CLTA for possible publication. If you wish to be considered for the prize, please indicate so on the proposal form.

Deadline for submission: Proposals must be received by February 14, 2004 to be considered. We prefer electronic submission. The Panel Proposal Form and Paper Proposal Form are available for online submission. Paper submissions should be made to the address below. Accepted paper abstracts will be published on CLTA's web site.
