"Chinese Breakthrough is a success. It provides, as the preface
states: 'a structured yet flexible multi-media course format' for
learners of Chinese with integrated and annotated audiovisual and
video materials, assisting learners in breaking through the initial
barrier for comprehending and enjoying TV news programs in Chinese.
From the perspective of text and material development, Chinese
Breakthrough presents an ensemble of authentic mutli-media materials
to the field, an achievement that is ground-breaking".
-Textbook review by Hao Sun, Journal of the Chinese Language Teachers
Association, Oct. 1997, Vol. 32:3, pp. 113-116.
"There are about 100 schools using the CD-ROM all over the world, as far away as Australia. Closer to home are schools such as Brigham Young University, University of Virginia, Southern Methodist University, Newton North High School in Massachusetts."
"The textbook has similarly been adopted all over the world in
England, Germany, Spain and at such places as the Calgary school
system in Canada, and the Auckland Institute in Australia. In the
United States, both high schools and colleges are using this series,
from East Coast to West Coast, as well as government agencies such as
the CIA. Some examples are Shawnee Mission schools in Kansas, the
Berlitz schools, Middlebury College, Duke University, Carnegie Mellon
University, Phillips Exeter Academy, the California State University
system, San Francisco State University, and the University of
