musique concrete projects!

MUS 257 - Fall 1997

The assignment:

"Record three brief sounds on a DAT, and then transfer these sounds digitally into Pro Tools (as was demonstrated in class). In Pro Tools make several copies of these three sounds and apply various techniques of manipulation to them (e.g., reversal, time compression, pitch shift, etc.). Drag these copies to various tracks and arrange them in a way that makes for interesting pacing and creates a texture of sufficient density. The resulting composition should be approximately two to three minutes in duration."

After these projects were assembled with Pro Tools, by Digidesign, they were encoded as MPEG Layer 3 files with Rafael W. Luebbert's MPecker Encoder.

To play these files your browser will need a helper application that plays MP3 files. Macintosh and Windows users can obtain this, along with excellent directions for configuring your browser, from our friends at Sweetwater Sound.
Macintosh users can also play MP3 files (and MIDI files too) with SoundApp.
