Kirkland Project Apple

Hewlett Grant

Hewlett Grant:

In the summer of 2001, Hamilton College, with Kirkland Project leadership, received a three-year institutional grant from the Hewlett Foundation to support the development of courses that consider "pluralism and unity."

The goals of the grant are:
» To enable a significant number of faculty (from all four divisions of the College) to become conversant with issues of diversity and to learn skills of managing potentially volatile discussion surrounding these issues, both in and out of the classroom.
» To shift the burden of responsibility for programming and raising issues of diversity from the current, relatively small, number of students and faculty from underrepresented groups to the "mainstream" community.

In each of three years, twelve Hamilton faculty members will attend a summer Institute. Each faculty member will receive an individual grant ($3000) to prepare a new course or modify an existing course. The Kirkland Project is proud to be the administrator of this grant at Hamilton.
