During the 1976-77 academic year, a chapter of Psi Chi (the National Honor Society in Psychology) was founded at Hamilton College. Membership in the society is offered to those students with an overall GPA in psychology of 88 in at least 4 courses in the department and a rank in the top third of their class. Candidates must have declared a concentration or minor in Psychology or Neuroscience and be at least second semester sophomores. Membership is a lifetime one and signifies a member's dedication to the field. Inductions occur in both the Fall and Spring Semesters. The Psi Chi chapter sponsors activities that add to the intellectual atmosphere of the department. Members of the chapter have organized colloquia by both local and visiting psychologists, have made awards of recognition to fellow students and to faculty members, and have sponsored the sales of psychology t-shirts.
