E-mail
If you do not have an e-mail account, set one up immediately. I expect to receive your reaction papers by e-mail and will contact you frequently through e-mail. If there are any changes in the assigned readings I will post them to you via e-mail.

World Wide Web

The WWW offers significant and useful material for us. During the semester numerous required reading assignments will be on Web sites. If you need some training on how to access and search the WWW using Netscape, attend the information session on Wednesday, September 3 at 4 PM in the Computer Classroom (005 Burke Library). Kristen Strohmeyer will be available to assist you. (Please be prompt. She will leave at 4:15 PM if no one shows up.)

Note on Web use. You may have seen the recent cover-story in Time Magazine (August 25, 1997) concerning privacy issues and internet use. This is an issue worthy of our attention and concern. I have, for example, encountered Netscape warnings that some pages collect information on browsers of Web sites (the “magic cookie” syndrome). If you wish to remain anonymous, you should either access the sites in the College computer center or connect to sites through www.anonymizer.com. There is a delay on accessing when using “anonymizer,” but you are (supposedly) assured of anonymity.

I expect you to explore these useful Web sites:
