Finding Peer-Reviewed Journal Articles in Sociology at Queens College

1.    Follow directions to set up your computer to use off-campus resources.

2.    Go to the library website for a list of journal databases.

3.    Click on “Social Sciences Abstractst”

4.    When the new window loads, select the checkbox for social sciences abstracts and for Limit To: Peer Reviewed. Your screen should look like this:

5.    Enter your search in the boxes—it is preferable to use a keyword search rather than a smart search. Then click “start.”

6.    When you get a list of results, click on the titles to read the abstracts. If the article seems relevant, you can:
       a.    Use the checkboxes to select articles, and then click on “print email save” to record your list of results.
       b.    Click on the “find it” button next to the relevant article. This will generate a screen that looks like this:

                --Click "find it" again next to the full-text option you prefer (They should be equivalent). What happens after this will depend on the particular journal—if you
                  have problems, email me or a reference librarian.
                --If the journal is not available under full text, click the "find it" button under “Available in the library?” to see if CUNY owns a paper copy. If a paper copy
                  exists in the CUNY system, but not at Queens, you should be able to request it via interlibrary loan.
