ARTIST STATEMENT

It’s difficult to fathom the true threat humanity poses to wildlife populations and biodiversity. Working in wildlife rehabilitation, this ambiguity became quite clear: birds with broken wings after getting tangled in wires and nets, orphaned raccoons and opossums after losing their mothers to cars or inhumane traps, abandoned harbor seal pups separated from their mothers due to public crowding. The cases were endless and all of them had one thing in common: us. In this print series, I use Tetra Pak and recycled cartons to symbolize the human impact on the endangerment and extinction of various species. The materials, much like our environment, undergo a gradual decay as the packaging disintegrates after only a few prints, emphasizing the fragile nature of our ecosystem and the urgency for sustainable practices. I hope to prompt reflection on our throwaway culture in which convenience often comes at the expense of environmental degradation.
