History
The turn of the century marks the beginning of parent involvement as an issue in education, with the first Parent Teacher Association in 1897. By the year 1900, the PTA made resolutions addressing sex education, child labor, parenting education, and parent-teacher conferences. The PTA continues to be a force in education today, supporting various parent involvement programs, introducing their own programs, and evaluating new ones. The PTA, however, is not the only force in modern parental involvement. Take a look at the resource list for more information about the modern parental involvement movement.
