Conclusion
Modern society is diverse and divided on many issues. Many parents, for
instance, are concerned about the way schools discipline their children and teach
them about controversial topics, such as sex education. We will present some of these
issues to you from a character education standpoint. As with any educational issue,
character education is wrought with controversy. Parents
might ask, "who are you to tell my child how to lead their life?" Character
education is just one of many educational models. Like all the rest, it has it's
problems and it's adversaries. In this site, we will probe two issues, sex education
and discipline. These issues are at the heart of the controversy surrounding education
reform. In these next two sections, we will compare and contrast character education
with traditional education to illustrate character education in more detail.
There are many Character Education programs nationwide. Character education comes
in the form of private schools, charter schools, programs within public schools,
and magnet schools. Besides the institutions, there are many not for profit organizations
committed to promoting character in schools. Here is a listing of some of the sites
we found most helpful.
