ARTIST STATEMENT:

The environment I grew up in is at the core of my identity.

Upstate New York is a region often described by a collection of negative adjectives, usually referencing its weather, isolation, or economic decline.

In response to this belief, my senior project aims to represent gratitude for my home. Growing up in an isolated location forced me to explore the natural environment around me as a place to seek joy, independence, and creativity. While the prosperity has departed from many of the small towns and cities in New York, the beauty of the natural environment has remained.

In creating work where representation and abstraction coexist, my paintings represent vivid memories of the places that made me proud to live in New York State. Utilizing the capabilities of acrylic paint, the representation of landscapes became a endless experiment that resulted in a diverse use of the paint and subject matter.

I would like to thank my parents and grandparents for passing on their deep appreciation and passion for our beautiful home.
