ARTIST STATEMENT:

This year I have been contemplating voyeurism and possession through painting. There is a connection between the desire for a person, whether it be a friend, partner, or child, and the way this person is watched and examined.  I am afraid of the possibility that my love for people could based on a need to own them and have them as mine.  In each painting I have depicted a person who may be subject to this type of control and objectification. Anyone who looks at these paintings may become the one staring in hunger at what they want.  The way someone is posing for a painting also turns them into a object of desire.  And this relationship too could be based on superficial obsession for how they look or social advancement or could be out of true affection.
