As have been requested by many
institutions and individuals, we are happy to announce the
Second Conference/Workshop on
Technology and Chinese Language Teaching in the 21st
Century, to be held June 7-9,
2002 at Yale University and co-sponsored by Yale University and
Hamilton College. The first conference, held at Hamilton College
in June, 2000, was a great success. It attracted more than 40
enthusiastic participants and promoted the use of multimedia in
Chinese language teaching. The second conference, we believe, will
yield the same fruitful result and provide another opportunity for
colleagues in the Chinese teaching field to summarize and to share
their research and work in the past two years. Along with the
rapid development in technology and multimedia and more usage of
them in Chinese language teaching, this conference/workshop
attempts to help Chinese language instructors rethink their
pedagogical approach and restructure their current curriculum
while working with technology in their teaching.
It is expected to provide a platform and
focus on achieving four missions:
a. to bridge the gap between technology
and teaching methodology as well as curriculum;
b. to overview the development and
application of technology in the Chinese language teaching field;
c. to evaluate the existing multimedia
and web-based materials in the Chinese language teaching field;
d. to discuss future directions of
development and collaboration among different schools.
The conference will devote one day and a
half for panel presentations and demonstrations on various topics
and one half day for workshop with two hands-on sessions.
