Students benefit from the study of psychology in two important ways.

First, they come to know the factors that have influenced their own

development, thereby gaining insight into the biological, psychological

and social forces that shape the human condition. Second, they come to

see the beauty of the scientific method through its application in laboratory

experiments and field studies, thereby gaining insight into one of the major

avenues through which knowledge is acquired.

It brings us great sadness to announce that our friend and colleague, Jonathan
, the James L. Ferguson Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience,
passed away on September 14, 2014.  His leadership at Hamilton College and
his mentorship of students and faculty colleagues will be deeply missed.  A
video tribute has been created in his honor.
