  1. Paper presented at annual CAAS meeting, October 8, 2005: Latin Karaoke
  2. Samples forthcoming pending copyright issues
  3. How to Make Your Own Latin Karaoke
  1. strip original lyrics from the song:
    1. skip this step if
      1. you purchase a karaoke CD (designated as CD+G, CD plus Graphics); if you play this in a CD player or save as an MP3, the original vocals (usually!) have been stripped from the song, leaving only the instrumental arrangement. The vocals will only appear as graphics if you play the CD+G in a karaoke machine or in a compatible DVD player;
        OR
      2. you purchase an instrumental arrangement of the song; the version of the Beach Boys' Barbara Ann (from the album: New Symphonic Orchestra plays the Beach Boys) I used for this session came from Real Rhapsody, an internet music service, for which you pay a subscription fee, as well as a fee for every song you burn onto a CD.
    2. use a vocal remover, such as the plug-in for WinAmp, or RazorLame or the plug-in for XMMS, called De-fx, or other such audio programs (all of which are available as free, downloadable software).
  2. insert new lyrics
    1. use another type of software, e.g., KaraFun Editor, to insert new lyrics as karaoke text; nota bene: you will need to precisely cue the words to the music, and this can be a little tedious!
      OR
    2. you can also use Flash (not free software)
  3. play song, with new text lyrics, in the KaraFun Player or other compatible karaoke player.
