Successional stage affects butterfly diversity at La Selva

We studied the diversity of butterfly species and the abundance of individual butterflies in three different successional habitats at La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica. The forest stands were one year-old growth, four year-old growth, and primary forest. Butterfly diversity and abundance were inversely correlated with the successional stage of the observation site.
