Palo Verde Projects

We stayed at the Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) Palo Verde field station located in a seasonally dry tropical forest on limestone outcrops along the southern bank of the Tempisque River in western Costa Rica. The extensive wetland vegetation bordering the river provides habitat for a tremendous diversity of birds. There is virtually no rain during the six-month dry season beginning in December. Most of the trees in the forest drop their leaves during the dry season, which provides excellent viewing opportunities for wildlife drawn to watering holes.

At Palo Verde the class carried out three projects:

Cactus

Ant - Acacia

Leaf Diversity
