many cells

Welcome to the Nannas Lab! We are interested in understanding how our genetic material, packaged into chromosomes, are properly divided during cell division. Mistakes in this process can be costly for organisms in terms of health and ability to reproduce. We are particularly interested in how chromosomes are segregated during meiosis, the specialized cell division that produces egg and sperm. We use a range of molecular, cellular and genetic techniques to investigate how chromosomes are correctly attached to and apart by the microtubule-based spindle in our model system, Zea mays (maize).
