ARTIST STATEMENT:

Everyone has a different understanding of what constitutes a home. Some people think of home as a location while oth-ers associate it with family. The word “home” has multiple meanings and interpretations. Personally, I associate home as not only family, but also my living space. For my senior thesis, I looked at all kinds of interior spaces. More specifi-cally, I began to look at spaces and the ways in which they affect us both emotionally and physically.

Spaces affect us on all kinds of levels. When creating a home, how do we shape spaces for our personal needs? How do we perceive and better understand our surround-ings? Interior spaces hold tons of information and they can reveal a lot about a person. A lot of people spend time in their homes and it’s interesting how spaces vary from family to family.

When I think of home, I do not solely designate it as a place to eat and sleep. Based on my personal experiences, I treat my spaces as places for further creativity. Recently, I became interested in interior design. I enjoy the decorating process and making spaces works of art. Interior design has an artistic element and through my paintings, I want to por-tray homes as not only inhabitable, but also as works of art.
