ARTIST STATEMENT:
The artworks reflect the ephemeral quality of nature's inevitable transformation. A physical object discovered somewhere I call home inspired each piece. Although the inspiring objects from nature morph during the process of decay, the ceramic figures have achieved permanence in their stable materiality. The hand-built ceramic pieces carefully recognize and elaborate upon nature's intricate forms and textures through an increase in scale. The resulting study evokes certain dualities: growth and decay, motion and immobility, natural formation and human intervention. The realistic fantasy develops a second life for the objects initially found in nature.
