ARTIST STATEMENT

The sculptures and photographs that I have created during the past year serve as a metaphor for the journey that I have gone through to reconnect the parts of my life that are most important.  Through this delicate undertaking, I have realized that once something has changed, the pieces cannot be put together in the same way.  The process of mending is evolutionary; it inevitably leads to the creation of something new.

The materials that I use in my work are remnants of food, nature, and containers that are usually thrown away.  I saved them to work with because just as in cooking, where different ingredients are combined to create new dishes, my sculptures and photographs create new objects, born from their ingredients.  The process and the product serve as reflections of my evolving identity and spirit.

Asya, How delicate and beautiful these photos are! Reading your statement gave me a new appreciation for your very deep soul. Congratulations on completing your studies.
