ARTIST STATEMENT:

Disproportionate Anxiety (2013–14)

These pieces explore my growing need for closure, understanding, and relief from life’s overwhelming situations. When the origins of anxiety become the remedies, a downward spiral begins. Perceptions change when façades are generated to disguise discomfort. Creating the images and videos becomes cathartic and therapeutic, while also representing the progression of anxiety and its mental affects visually.

This project was completed using medium and large format film and printed digitally on an inkjet printer.

Thank you to the Smallen Family and the Steven Daniel Smallen Memorial Fund for making this Disproportionate Anxiety possible. Your generosity alleviated a tremendous amount of anxiety.
