ARTIST STATEMENT:
Transforming raw earth into smooth, workable clay is a generative process in which I can manipulate the earthen material into venerative figures of coddling and womb-like forms. Reclaim references the relationship between clay and the coddling womb of Mother Earth, as well as my own mother’s unwavering support of creative pursuit. Handbuilding these hollow sculptures allowed me to interact with the unpredictable material and celebrate reproduction and maternity.
