ARTIST STATEMENT:

I am obsessed with the concept of modern celebrity. Reality TV stars, rappers, and comedians have become the new American icons. Millions of people across the country avidly consume any content these celebrities produce. What is it about them that incites such fascination? In my thesis project, I examine this phenomenon by reinterpreting celebrities through an art historical lense, using drawn antique frames and references to Renaissance paintings to connect modern icons to archetypal counterparts from the past. I used simple, modern materials like ink marker and watercolor to create these pieces in order to ground them in the present day.
