ARTIST STATEMENT

For three months of every year, I spend time exploring the beauty of the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks. The opportunity to be outside after having spent the prior nine months sitting inside various classrooms, longing to explore, not only makes me feel alive, but also makes me realize how much I value the education I receive from existing in and interacting with nature.

These forms are the portrayal of my inner-self during those long nine months of being stuck inside, fighting to feel alive in an environment that makes me feel anything but. The use of lichen, moss, and other fungi as textured elements represents the slow decay of that “alive” aspect inside of me as the nine month cycle takes its toll.
