DEFINING THE IDEOLOGIES OF THE DIGITAL CENTURY

In the twentieth century, global politics were dominated by ideological responses to mass industrialization. Since the 1990s, it has been fashionable to talk about the ‘end of history’ and the triumph of liberalism. But we have missed the ways that technology continues to change political thinking, particularly through instant global communication and the predictive power of mass data. This talk will examine the continuing role of ideology in public life and begin to sketch the emerging ideologies whose competition will dominate the twenty-first century.
