How do I book my travel?

If you are planning on flying to Upstate New York (Syracuse Hancock Internation Airport or Albany International Airport) please work with our travel agent, Direct Travel. Syracuse is approx. 50 min. away from Hamilton and Albany is approx. 1hr 40 min. away. As such, we will likely only be able to provide transportation between Syracuse Airport and Hamilton. Were you to fly into Albany, you would have to sort out your own transportation to Hamilton.

  • Note: If you are arriving very early or very late we may not be able to provide transportation to Hamilton College. Please contact us with any questions.

If you are planning on driving, bussing, or taking the train to Hamilton College, we will provide you with a one-time payment of $250. If you take this option, there is no need to provide us with any receipts for reimbursement.

When am I expected to be on campus?

We hope that all participants can arrive to campus on Sunday, June 26th before dinnertime. We will have a group dinner planned for that evening. Of course, we understand that not everyone's travel arrangements will accomodate this.

Students are expected to depart on Saturday, July 9. We will provide transportation to Syracuse airport and the Utica train station on that day.

Faculty are expected to present their work at the post-program pedagogy conference on July 11 and to depart on Tuesday, July 12. We expect to provide transportation to the airport or train station on July 12, too. We hope that tutors will also stay for the pedagogy conference.

How will I get to campus?

If you are not driving yourself (i.e. if you are taking a bus, train or flight) we would like to work with you to schedule transportation to campus. For questions about travel arrangments, please contact Meghan Espalin at hcspip@hamilton.edu (please CC mespalin@hamilton.edu).

Please note: if you are arriving very early, very late, not on Sunday, June 26, or to an airport other than SYR, we may not be able to provide transportation to Hamilton College.

Where will I live on campus? What will the rooms be like?

Students and tutors will live in Ferguson House on campus. They will be housed in single-style dorm rooms and will share a bathroom with one other participant.

Instructors will live in Morris House, also on campus. They will be housed in private, apartment-style dorm rooms (with an en suite bathroom).

Note: these details are subject to change.

What will be expected of me before I arrive on campus?

In addition to completing the Pre-Program Participant Survey, students are expected to complete the readings assigned to them for each of the three courses. Readings and materials will be distributed in the coming weeks, giving students plenty of time to prepare for the program.

What do I need to bring with me?

The Village of Clinton, NY gets hot in the summer but Hamilton's classrooms get quite cold. With this in mind, please bring summer-appropriate clothes and a sweatshirt or two. We are also planning a group hike of moderate difficulty (and will have the option for a swim) so please bring clothes for that. Note: no need to bring hiking boots, Hamilton College's outdoors club can provide you with a pair.

We will provide you all with a linen set, although fairly basic stock – nothing fancy. Students/Staff that can bring more comfortable pillows, blankets, etc from home may want to do so. FYI: the beds will be dorm-style, Twin XL.

Who do I contact with accessibility questions before/during the program?

Please contact our Program Director, Russell Marcus at hcspip@hamilton.edu.

How do I access wifi while on campus?

Policies

What is the HCSPiP's health insurance policy?

Though the HCSPiP cannot provide health coverage or insurance for your time here, there is good medical care nearby. In case of any health problem while you're here, we'd like to be able to facilitate proper attention. Paying for care is the responsibility of participants.

All participants will be asked to provide proof of insurance.

What is the photo/Instagram policy?

We will be taking pictures and posting them on the website and Instagram. Other than on our Student Participant page, pictures won’t be connected to names. For more on the Hamilton College policy on image use click here.

What is the Covid-19 policy?

All participants are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including a booster within 30 days of becoming eligible, unless they receive a medical or religious exemption, and must submit proof of their vaccinations.

Updated:

Before the program, please test yourselves. Your COVID test should be either a PCR test taken within 72 hours before arriving or a rapid test taken immediately before traveling to campus. If you test positive, whether or not you are symptomatic, do not come to the program. Let us know and we will work together to develop a plan.

During the program, monitor yourselves for symptoms. Do not come to classes or other activities if you feel ill. The Hamilton College COVID testing center will be closed this summer, but we will have COVID test kits available and can deliver them to your door.

Masking. Masks are not currently required on Hamilton’s campus except at large gatherings, if requested by the organizer(s). Faculty may require students to wear masks in teaching spaces, and we should all continue to be courteous and respect requests by others to wear a mask when near them indoors.

If you test positive for COVID during the program, you must either leave campus, if safely possible, or isolate in your dorm room. Notify us as soon as possible, and we will work out plans with you.
