Summer Program in Philosophy

Zavier is a rising junior at Hamilton, where he's concentrating in philosophy and (maybe) economics. He's most interested in moral philosophy, epistemology, and free will, and welcomes argument about anything with anyone. On campus, you can usually find him working in the library or as an online tutor, playing spikeball, or speedrunning Stardew Valley and Hades in his room. If you need a conversation topic, ask him about gift giving or whether Santa is evil.

Shannon is from San Francisco and is a rising junior at UC Berkeley where she is double majoring in philosophy and microbial biology. She is currently most interested in ethics, philosophy of science, and all things bacterial, but will happily have a conversation about almost anything. Outside of academics, she loves to hike, do gymnastics, and cross country ski.

I grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and spent many years in living in China. In the fall, I will be a third year at the University of Toronto, studying Philosophy and Latin. My primary philosophical interests are in Ancient and Medieval philosophy, as well as Bioethics. In my free time, I enjoy thrifting, running (preferably in nature), and drinking overpriced lattes.

I was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, and I am the first person from my family and my high school to attend a college abroad. I major in cultural anthropology and (hopefully) double-minor in philosophy and psychology. I was originally a member of the class of 22, but I took a gap year during the covid year. In terms of extracurriculars, I occasionally led on-campus activism for climate justice and minority harassment in the past, but this year, I mostly dedicated my time to my thesis. After college, I'm hoping to go to a PhD program to study Japanese discourses around passion/purpose particularly in online career development communities.

Where I am from, my philosophical interest, and my future career as a potential philosophy Ph.D candidate (and hopefully, a professor).

Robin grew up in Seoul, South Korea, until he moved to the U.S. in 3rd grade. He is particularly interested in philosophy's role in civic life, including ideas from normative ethics, ancient Greek philosophy, and Critical Theory. When he is not working on philosophy readings at Brown, he enjoys attempting to learn new languages and obsessing over classical music in the orchestra.

My name is Olivia James, I am from Mississippi, but born in California. I study psychology and philosophy and am really interested in the mind-body dualism. I am really interested in learning anything.

Born and raised in Miami, FL, I am studying philosophy in addition to Education and Italian Studies. My philosophical interests mainly lie in epistemology, metaphysics, and existentialism. Besides my academic pursuits, I am involved in WHCL as a disc jockey and Culture Magazine as a layout editor. In my spare time, I enjoy playing chess, spending time with my two lovely dogs, and drinking ginger ale.

I am a rising sophomore at Hamilton College. I was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island and enjoy studying Eastern philosophies and am a practicing Buddhist. I love being active especially hiking, yoga, and basketball. I am a writer typically of short stories and poetry. Hearing people talk about their lives and the way they view the world is almost always of interest to me. I'm all about good energy.

Sophie Pollack-Milgate is from Indianapolis, Indiana. She studies physics & philosophy at Brown University, with interests in the philosophy of science and comparative philosophy. Beyond philosophy, she enjoys being outside, seeing snobby movies, and cooking haphazardly.

Cat is a rising Junior from Middlebury, Vermont. She is double-majoring in neuroscience and philosophy and on the Hamilton College ultimate frisbee team. She also enjoys cross country skiing and running. Her favorite book genre is autobiography. She is a coffee addict and while drinking coffee most enjoys discussing determinism and the intersection of religion and philosophy.

I am a junior history and public policy major at Hamilton College. I love fishtanks, Foucault, and the Boston Celtics.

I am a student at New College of Florida, currently writing my thesis on ethical accounts of gender. My main philosophical interests are ethics and feminist philosophy. Although I live in Florida currently, I was born and raised in San Francisco, California. Outside of philosophy, I enjoy powerlifting, anime, and video games.

John Henry is a rising senior at Washington & Lee University, where he is studying Philosophy and Economics. He hopes to pursue a graduate degree in philosophy or law (or both!) after graduation. He is from Corpus Christi, Texas and credits his passion for philosophy to support from his parents, teachers, friends, and his dog Tillman. Outside of philosophy he loves football, cooking, and hiking.

I grew up in Washington, DC and am a Cinema Studies major in addition to studying philosophy. I am an avid baseball fan, a black belt in tae kwon do, and a devotee of the 1999 film "Galaxy Quest".

Evelyn comes from Nanjing, China. She is a philosophy and sociology double major at William and Mary. She is interested in ethics, philosophy of law, logic, and criminology. Besides philosophy, she enjoys travel, reading novels, and watching movies.

My name is Natalie Watson, I'm a junior from Hastings College studying criminology with minors in English, philosophy, and sociology. I'm originally from Leiper's Fork, Tennessee so I have a really tumultuous relationship with Nebraska weather.

I like soccer, reading, movies, eating, walking, sitting, and laughing.

Wendi grew up in Bellevue, WA and is a rising senior at the University of Washington. Her interest areas include social, political, and moral philosophy.
