ARTIST STATEMENT:
Growing up with summers in a craggy Maine, and living abroad in cities surrounded by water, I have developed strong ties to the land’s edge and the ocean.
The sculptures I have created are a contemplation on these familiar, natural elements and forms. The hand-building process of these earthen oceanscapes proved to be intimate and meditative for me.
With a rich background in art history and oil painting, color has also become a critical component; it has the ability to determine the mood and language of the work. My focus has lent itself to creating different colored glazes in order for my sculptural forms to dynamically interact with one another, while also creating a serene aesthetic environment, mimicking the ocean.
