ARTIST STATEMENT:

I am interested in flipping the notions surrounding the word "army." I am drawn to the idea of an army not being a symbol of violence and destruction, but rather a culminating act of love and nurturing. This work seeks to understand an individual's reasons for entering a battlefield and what being a warrior entails. The piece asks the viewer to contemplate the difference between a force meant to protect as opposed to a force meant to conquer. To what extent can providing protection become detrimental to the wellbeing of those that protect us?
