ARTIST STATEMENT:
The mind often associates architecture with buildings and construction – this project instead draws attention to the body as a work of architecture. We frequently take advantage of what our bodies are capable of instead of celebrating their potential. As a senior leaving behind four years of collegiate athletics, I too am guilty of not fully appreciating what my body has done for me.
In each painting the model is rendered in the same hues using the same bare white background. The intention is to depict the model in a decontextualized setting to bring the focus of the work to the way the body presents as a graphic form. This work is meant to inspire others to see the simplest beauty hidden in everyday motion.
