In the Chemistry Department our faculty work closely with students in the classroom and laboratory to discover and understand the molecular world. Our curriculum, which includes courses and research in biological, organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, supports students with career aspirations not only in the chemical sciences, but also in medicine, biology, neuroscience, physics, geology, and engineering.
We keep our classes small and have designed investigative laboratories to engage our students in the excitement of thinking about and doing chemistry. Our curriculum is comprehensive, yet flexible, preparing students for graduate programs in chemistry, yet allowing them to take advantage of study-abroad programs and second concentrations while studying at Hamilton.
Undergraduate research, both in the summer and throughout the academic year, is central to our activity as teacher/scholars and we often publish and present our results with undergraduate co-authors. Hamilton's leadership in undergraduate research was recognized in 2003 as among the very best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges."
