PHYS 295: Electromagnetism

Spring 2025

Instructor: Seth Major, smajor, 4919, G064
Office Hours:

After each class, Thursdays 2:30 - 4:30 PM

Lectures:

MWF 10:00-10:50 AM Science Center G047

Texts:

Purcell and Morin, Electricity and Magnetism 3rd Edition

Morin, Special Relativity for the enthusiastic beginner Chapter 1 (pdf)

Reading in SR Ellis and Williams, Spacetime diagram intro (5.9 MB)

News:

  • The example final and (corrected - thank you Leo!) solution hints are posted!
  • Here are notes on the last question we had during the review. As you recall we didn't finish computing the magnetic field in class. This is done in these notes.
  • There are corrected problem sets outside my office. PS 8 is now fully corrected.
  • Relativity may be on the final.
  • Office hours will be normal (Thursday 10-12, 1:30 - 4:30) during finals week. If you'd like to set up another time send an email with times so we can arrange a meeting. During the week is better for me.
